Make expropriations friendlier

Editor,

We appreciate the City of Kigali’s achievements in recent years; however, City dwellers who have no other place to call home should not stay for years resigned to fate, without knowing whether their land is legally occupied or not.

An example is the large number of residents in Kigali International Airport neighbourhood who have been affected by the City Master Plan.

Why don’t the City and other concerned authorities evict the people forthwith instead of abandoning them in limbo? Tell them to go early, compensate them, and let them go to outlying imirenge (sectors) while land is still available.

As it is, the people are paying taxes, can’t develop their legitimately acquired land, an equivalent of torture or slow death.
