Editor,

Refer to the story, "Ban Ki-moon appoints new deputy special envoy for Monusco” (The New Times, February 7).

Doesn’t really matter one whit who is appointed, shifted here or there, this whole Monusco scam reached its sell-by date long ago (that is if, in the first place, it ever had any use for the people of the sub-region whose security has been put forward as a convenient justification for its creation and perpetual extension). One other SRSG or DSRSG, or any other acronym won’t make an iota of a difference.

Watch as this useless money-guzzler’s mandate to pretend to do something—anything—even as its very existence continues to contribute to the very DR Congo chaos it is supposedly there to help resolve is waved through without debate for the umpteenth time. What a world!
