Editor,

Sunday Times carried an inspirational piece about three women who drive long haul buses. I say inspirational because it’s almost impossible to find a woman who drives a big bus, let alone long distances. They have broken societal stereotypes to show that what a man can do, a woman can also do. We still live in a world with countries like Saudi Arabia where women are still fighting for the right to drive.

The example of these women, including a Muslim lady, is major inspiration not only to Rwandan women but also to the outside world. Today’s women have a tendency of opting for easy or corporate jobs forgetting that any job, as long as it is rewarding, can be satisfying.

Although it has not been proven yet, these women say that they are trusted because people say women are generally safe drivers and rarely use drugs, which means that it’s common for people to feel safe when a woman is driving.

I would like to encourage girls to join such institutions instead of going for easier jobs which might not be rewarding. Well done ladies!
