APR men’s basketball club is keen on halting a 5 year league trophy drought when the national basketball league kick-offs this afternoon.

The three-time Fiba Africa zone five champions head coach Cliff Owuor believes the target is achievable if they show commitment and work hard as a team.

Talking to Times Sport in a telephone interview recently, the former Kenyan international point guard praised the enthusiasm in his youthful squad and is confident that his side is one of the favourities for league glory.

"We are eyeing our first league title in five years, since 2010 we have not been a big threat to giants like Espoir and CSK among others but it’s time to bounce back and rise to where we used to belong,” the Kenyan-born technician Owuor told this paper.

"The recent Heroes Day tournament was a good challenge for my players, after finishing second runners-up, we are working on mistakes and weaknesses ahead of the league kick-off,” he added.

The black-and-white outfits finished third in the national heroes day tournament recently losing 73-50 to Espoir in the semi-finals, the latter went on to beat CSK 81-61 to win the competition.

Espoir and Ubumwe Basketball Club are reigning champions in men and women’s league respectively and will represent the country at this year’s regional club championships.
