RWANDA Football Association (Ferwafa) has approved six more teams to be part of this year’s second division league, during an extraordinary general assembly at the federation headquarters in Remera on Saturday.

The six new teams join 19 others that had registered before the January 13, 2015 deadline. That takes the number of the teams in the second tier to 25. The teams are divided into two pools.

The newly registered clubs are: Hope FC (Rutsiro), Nyagatare Football Training, Mironko Plast FC, Heroes FC (Play for Hope), Rugende Training Centre and Gitikinyoni Football Centre.

Last year, Rwamagana-based Sunrise FC claimed the second division title edging Isonga FC in the final, but both sides earned promotion to the topflight league where Sunrise now sit 9th with 17 points while Isonga are bottom of the 14-team league log with only four points from 14 matches.

Former national football league side La Jeunesse and 2013 Peace Cup finalists AS Muhanga will start as favorites to earn promotion.

The six new entrants are yet to be drawn in the two pools that already had been formed before their official requests to join the league.

To ensure the policy of using homegrown talents, Ferwafa has ordered second division teams to use U-20 players with only three players above the age of 20 allowed in the squad. The league is scheduled to kick off on February 7.

Group A:

Bugesera, Akagera, Esperance, Intare, Interforce, Kirehe, Muhanga, Rwamagana, Sorwathe and Unity FC

Group B:

Gasabo, La Jeunesse, Pepiniere, United Stars, Vision, Vision JN, SEC Academy and ASPOR.
