THE MINISTER for Infrastructure, James Musoni, has commended the role churches play in the socio-economic development of the country.

Musoni was speaking yesterday at the inauguration of Garden Place Hotel built by Shyira Diocese of the Anglican Church in Musanze District.

The new hotel was constructed at a tune of Rwf500 million.

The minister said the Anglican Church had played a role in not only changing the spiritual lives of Rwandans but also in education, infrastructure and socio- economic development.

He said the new hotel will help promote tourism and offer employment opportunities.

Musoni said government will work closely with religious entities to ensure the country achieved its development targets.

Shyira diocese boasts over 200 nursery schools, 50 secondary and primary schools and a university. It also has health facilities and cooperatives.

Shyira Diocese bishop Laurant Mbanda said the diocese is committed to helping Rwandans both spiritually and physically.

He said the diocese has over 800 saving groups, with over Rwf200 million, that empower women through mothers union, which brings together Anglican women leaders.

"This hotel was built to promote tourism and help build the capacity of the diocese,” he said.
