Rwanda’s ambassador to the Netherlands, Jean Pierre Karabaranga, on Tuesday presented letters of credence to the President of Latvia, Andris Berzins.

During the ceremony, held in Riga, the Capital of Latvia, Karabaranga, who was in the company of his wife Viviane Uwicyeza Mironko, and Minister Counselor Guillaume Kavaruganda, discussed bilateral relations with Berzins .

The discussion focused on bilateral cooperation in education, sports, agriculture and global peace.

Amb. Karabaranga, held meetings with top Latvian officials including Andrejs Pildegovics, vice minister in the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Veronika Erte, Head of State Protocol.

He also met with Gundars Daudze, Deputy Speaker of the Latvian Parliament; and Janis Endzins, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Kavaruganda told The New Times, that they were also scheduled to meet Nils Usakovs, the Mayor of Riga.

Dusabimana reportedly went to the country in 1989.

Latvia, a member of the European Union, regained its independence, in 1991, from the Soviet Union. The country covers an area of 64.589 square kilometers and has a population of two million people.

Currently, it has only one embassy in Africa, in Egypt.

This month, Latvia took over from Italy, as the President of the Council of the EU for six months.
