PHILBERT Rutagengwa has been elected as the new Rwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee secretary general replacing Ahmed Habineza who resigned last year.

The 40-year old Rutagengwa, who has been the head of the legal and ethics commission at RNOSC, embarks on his new role with immediate effect.

"I am very honoured to be elected into this position as secretary general of the RNOSC. My first objective is to bridge the gap between us and national federations as well as preparing our teams for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games,” said an excited Rutagengwa.

Rutagengwa from the Rwanda Swimming Federation registered 27 votes beating Parfait Busabizwa (17) who was recommended by the Rwanda Judo Federation and Dominique Bizimana (2) from the National Paralympic Committee.
