Johnson is new Amavubi coach

RWANDA FOOTBALL Federation (Ferwafa) technical director Lee Johnson is the new national team head coach, replacing Stephen Constantine who resigned on Thursday.

Johnson, who has also been in charge of the U-17 national team spent the last six months setting up organized structures at grassroot level throughout the country.

The former youth academy coach at Chelsea and Crystal Palace brings massive football experience to the Amavubi and is expected to prepare the national side for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) that will be hosted in Rwanda in January 2016.

Johnson’s first assignment is to prepare the national U-23 side that will face Tanzania in a friendly match in Mwanza on January 22 in preparation for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games qualifier against Somalia in March.

According to the Ferwafa spokesman Moussa Hakizimana, Johnson has the right to name a different squad from the one Constantine named that was released on Thursday morning.
