Joyce Amande, also known as Kitty Joyce, is a Rwandan upcoming musician who last year collaborated with Uganda’s Sizzaman and Dan Flevor in a single titled Deep in Love. Kitty, also known for her song Give it to you, is the marketing executive for Safintra Rwanda International, a roofing company.

The 26-year-old chats with Society Magazine’s Doreen Umutesi about the inspiration behind her dress code.

How would you describe your dress sense?

Kitty Joyce

It depends on what I’m going to do. For instance, if I have a meeting, I will dress up formally. If it’s partying, I love dressing in a short sexy dress and heels.

But if I’m going to shoot a music video, the dress code blends with the message in the song. For example my new single Doro Baby has an African touch, so the dress code in the music video is characterised by African fabric.

What’s your favourite clothing item?

I love really short dress and cleavage revealing blouses, especially when I’m in a partying mood. I feel free.

Where do you shop for clothes?

Most of the time, I do my shopping in Kampala. I have a designer who is in Kampala and she gets her stuff from the United States of America. So if I need new designs, I contact her. She sends them because she knows my size. All I do is tell her the colour and style.

What do you consider when shopping for clothes?

I mainly consider the individuality of the outfit. I always look out for latest designs from celebrities. The colour issue comes in with the quality.

What is your favourite fashion accessory?

I love big necklaces and simple earrings.

What is your favourite clothing item on a guy?

I love a man in a fitting suit. But on normal days he can wear a simple shirt and fitting jeans.

What’s your favourite scent?

My favourite perfume is Ange Ou Demon Le Secret. It’s an Italian perfume.

What is the most expensive fashion accessory that you own and why did you buy it?

It’s a dress that I wore in my music video Give it to you. I bought it from my designer. It’s from the USA.

Any fashion advice?

Dress up in an outfit your comfortable in, it should not matter a lot that your neighbour is not comfortable with what you’re wearing. First make yourself happy before getting worried about other people‘s happiness.
