There is no hope in Monusco

Editor,

Allow me to react to the article, "The Government of Rwanda’s statement on need for urgent military action against FDLR” (The New Times, January 3).

We have all predicted that, come January 3, 2015, Monusco-FIB and their FARDC auxiliaries would do everything else but carry out the UN Security Council Resolution to use force to eradicate the genocidal FDLR.

Now that their sustained Twitter salvoes are over, expect a prolonged period of silence, punctuated by periodic cyberspace shelling and YouTube rockets seemingly aimed at their FDLR friends. All this really nothing more than an oiled sound-and-fury operation aimed at the global audience, but signifying absolutely nothing!

Since 1994, Rwandans of course are fully inoculated against being duped by these same people; we are very experienced at discerning that there is very often a very wide chasm between declarations of the mighty and their real actions on the ground.

At the end of the day we shall, as usual, depend solely on ourselves to protect our country from these génocidaires and their amoral friends. Thank God for the effective shield that the Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) represents.
