Kigali-based Lions Karate-do club outsmarted 17 other clubs as its Kumite players emerged overall winners of the seniors’ fighting contest during the year 2014 national Anti-Malaria Senior Karate Championships that ended Tuesday.
The three-day event held at Amahoro National Stadium, saw the Kicukiro district-based Mamarou-do Karate club’s fighting team emerge second, followed by the University of Rwanda (UR) team.
Eighteen clubs, competed in the tournament which was sponsored by Imbuto Foundation.
Rwanda Karate Federation (Ferwaka) technical director Guy Didier Rurangayire is full of praise for Lions Karate-do club’s "talented young generation of players who proved they are at a higher level.”
Nyamagabe Karate Club, winners of the 2013 event, were eliminated in the early stages but some of their best fighters such as Solange Ingabire put up a good show, as the later won gold in the female Kumite challenges.
