Editor,

Reference was made to the counselor’s question on Thursday, December, 25 2014 of a man who was contemplating to leave his girlfriend for an old flame he bumped into recently. I couldn’t help but shake my head at what kind of man would date a girl for four year, is in a hurry to get married and start a family while at the same not sure of his feelings. Is it normal or am I just being unrealistic?

This is the exact problem that is messing up relationships nowadays because we run into them with no genuine reasons and in his case; it’s all about marriage. Marriage is not a bed a roses and there are times when the marriage loses the flame it began with and this is where true feelings come in.

You realise that maybe things are not going well but because you well know that you got married to your best friend and soul mate that is enough to stick around and make it work. Now, let’s say he leaves for an old flame, what are the chances that the reason he broke up with her in the first place won’t be the same reason that will bring him down?

These are questions people often ignore but are paramount in relationships. Unless we first understand the fundamentals of relationships, we shall keep getting heartbroken and divorced over trivial matters.
