The top leaders of Gatsibo District in the Eastern Province have tendered their resignation to the District Advisory Council (DAC).

The officials who resigned include the Mayor Ambrose Ruboneza, the Vice Mayor for Economic Affairs, Isaiah Habarurema, and the DAC President, Innocent Munyaneza. When contacted, Ruboneza confirmed the resignation of the three leaders, noting that it was in the interest of the public. "We sat and decided to resign…ours was to serve the public, but it lost meaning when we were ranked last in performance contracts,” he said. Gatsibo District ranked the worst performer in this year’s performance contracts (Imihigo) implementation. "Despite the fact that we had done a lot in infrastructure and agriculture development we lost public confidence due to poor ranking. It was thus wise decision for us to resign,” he said. The DAC has accepted their resignations. Unconfirmed reports also indicate that the Mayor of Rwamagana District Néhémie Uwimana and the Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs Francesca Mutiganda have also resigned. By press time, the DAC of Rwamagana District was still locked in a meeting, which sources say would result into the duo’s resignation.
