The Rwandan Community in the Republic of Sudan on Wednesday contributed to Rwanda Demobilisation and Reintegration Commission a $78,000 (about Rwf55 million) to support Rwanda Patriotic Army (RPA) veterans living with disabilities.

The event took place at RDRC headquarters in Kigali.

Speaking during the function, the Chairperson of Rwandan Community in the Sudan, Sulaiman Kalisa, said the donation aims at thanking and supporting RPA veterans for helping liberate Rwanda.

He said the donation was a contribution by Rwandan international staff and Rwandan peacekeepers working in the Sudan over the last two years.

"This is to recognise the veterans living with disabilities for their sacrifices during the liberation struggle,” Kalisa said.

He said the funds would support the long term projects of the veterans living with disabilities.

The Chairpersonn of RDRC, Jean Sayinzoga, thanked the RPA veterans for their invaluable role in the liberation of the country.

He thanked the Rwanda community in Sudan for the contribution, which demonstrates "our values as Rwandans.”

Sayinzoga added that the money would be used to support long-term development projects for the veterans.

In 2012, Rwandan Community in Sudan contributed $120,000 toward the Agaciro Development Fund.
