AS Kigali team captain John Hakiri 'Mabura' Muganga has urged his fellow players to continue with the same winning spirit that they have exhibited since start the season.

The 25-year-old midfielder said a number of factors have contributed to their impressive form this season, but mostly their winning spirit which has been imparted into them by head coach Eric Nshimiyimana, who replaced Andre Cassa Mbungo after the later joined Police FC in July.

"We just have to keep winning all our matches and more so against big clubs. Morale in the squad is high and team spirit has never been better.

The coach has done so much to instill a winning spirit and we need to maintain for the rest of the season,” Muganga told Sunday Sport in an exclusive interview on Friday.

AS Kigali stand on 2nd position in the 14-team league table with 21 points, two behind defending champions APR having won 8 games, drew two and lost one so far.

But Muganga believes the army side can be overtaken at the top, "All we need is continue winning our games, I am sure we can leapfrog APR at the top.”

The former Rayon Sport, Police FC and Salawak (Malaysia) player noted that the team’s impressive run of good form would not be possible without good leadership on and off the field.

AS Kigali, who will next face Espoir when the National Football league returns on Wednesday, have never won the league but won the Peace Cup in 2013 and also reached the second round in the Caf Confederation Cup this year.

Nshimiyimana’s team won the 2014 anti-corruption tournament organized by the Office of the Ombudsman nearly two weeks ago after beating APR on penalty shootouts in the semi-final and Police FC in the final 1-0.
