Uganda’s Dan F. Kidega has been elected as Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly (Eala) today.  He replaces Margaret Zziwa, who was ousted on Wednesday in a no confidence vote.

Dan F. Kidega has been elected as Speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly.

Kidega was elected unopposed.

Zziwa’s removal from office came as a result of the impeachment motion moved by Peter Mathuki (Kenya) on grounds of gross abuse of office.

Zziwa had attempted to block the House from ousting her through an application to the East African Court of Justice (EACJ) but the court binned her application a day before the voting.
