Reference to the story Domestic Violence: When women turn the heat on men, The New Times, December, 11 2014

Editor,

The issue of domestic violence is one that has been discussed by every organ of the government, in higher institutions of learning, the work place and church but what surprises me, regardless of all the sensitisation that has been done, is that some women continue to suffer from the wrath of their husbands. What are we not doing properly?

Surely, it all boils down to how we raise our sons and what parents tell them about being responsible gentlemen. Years back, men would beat women and they would never leave because that’s how society was set back then, but now women are empowered to make decisions that affect their lives and no woman deserves to go through such a life.

Men, if you are weak enough to beat your wife, then remember that there’s another weak man who might do the same to your daughter. Imagine how that feels! Women should speak up against such things and report these cases because at the end of it all, we need an environment that our children will inherit without being scared about how they will survive it.
