ON-FORM pair of Vincent Ruhumuliza and Olivier Ntagengwa won the 2014 national beach volleyball championship after they defeated Vincent Dusabimana and Sylvester Ndayisaba in the men’s final at Palm Beach in Rubavu on Sunday.

Ruhumuliza and Ntagengwa overcame their opponents 2-0 (21-13, 21-15) to pick their second trophy in a space of seven days having clinched bronze at the Castle Lite International beach volleyball event in Kampala that attracted 24 teams from East Africa on December 7-8.

"We complemented each other so well because we now understand how to play together. In Kampala, it was the first time we were playing together,” said an excited Ruhumuliza.

In the veterans’ category, Julius Kansiime and Bosco Bayiringire saw off Fidele Nyirimana and Ignance Iyabato 2-1 (21-16, 18-21, 15-11) in the final to emerge winners.

Meanwhile, Christian Hatutimana, a member of the beach volleyball commission at the Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB) revealed that, "We shall have a meeting on Thursday to decide which team will represent Rwanda at the CAVB Zone 5 Rio Olympic Games qualifiers next year.”

Rwanda was represented by Flavien Ndamukunda and Jean Luc Mbonyuwontuma at the last Olympic qualifiers held in Rubavu but failed to make the mark to the London 2012.
