MTN Rwanda has donated 27 sewing machines to a group of widows living with HIV/Aids in Gahanga, Kicukiro District. The donation worth Rwf2.5 million was channelled through the Association of HIV/Aids Infected Widows (AVVAIS).

This was part of the activities the telecom carried out during the week-long MTN HIV/Aids awareness campaign.

Mary Asiimwe, the MTN human resource manager, said they wanted to support the women and help them have a sustainable source of income to improve their livelihoods.

MTN Foundation chairperson, Zulfat Mukarubega, officiated at the hand over event at the association offices in Gahanga on Friday.

Speaking at the function, Chantal Nyiramanyana, the association’s legal representative, thanked the telecom firm, saying the donation will help improve the social welfare of their members.

"We are grateful to MTN Rwanda for this contribution. This support will enable the group to improve service delivery, as well as expand their enterprises and become more competitive,” Nyiramanyana said.
