Today

Mauritania   v   Rwanda

Today, Rwanda will know her fate as far as qualifying for the next round of the 2010 World Cup /Africa Cup of Nations is concerned.

Amavubi Stars plays Mauritania in Nouakchott this evening (7pm) before it concludes its second round qualification campaign against Ethiopia.

With several of the first team players at his disposal, nothing short of a positive result is expected of Coach Tucak Blanko’s men thanks to the availability of Hamad Ndikumana, Olivier Karekezi and Henry Munyaneza.

Blanko however has to do without his influential trio of Eric Gasana, Elias Ntaganda and Jean Mugiraneza who are suspended for today’s tie.

Saddou Boubakary is in Cameroon on family engagements.

Amavubi Stars should also expect the worst case scenario for poor officiating as it has remained unpredictable element that has denied Amavubi Stars’ a chance to shine in West Africa.

Rwanda trounced Mauritania 3-1 in the first leg of the 2010 World/Africa Cup qualifiers held in Kigali in May and currently lies second in group eight.

Rwanda and Morocco are level on points (nine) but the later tops the group following a superior goal difference.

Twenty countries will qualify for the third round of the competition with the group winners in the 12 groups qualifying automatically.

Eight best runners-up will join the 12 group winners for the third round, which will have a total of 20 teams. The following system will be adopted to rank fairly teams placed second in groups of four or three.
