Last week, Rwanda joined the rest of the world to celebrate the annual Customer Service Week. The dedicated week highlights the importance of customer service as the bedrock of the tourism industry but also serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts needed to ensure that the industry continues to provide exceptional experiences for tourists and guests.

The tourism and hospitality sector is a vital driver of economic growth and development in Rwanda. Today, the tourism industry contributes about 11% to the national GDP.

The potential for growth in the industry continues to be substantial. Rwanda, with its diverse attractions, cultural heritage, and efforts to improve infrastructure and services, is well-positioned to further boost its tourism industry and strengthen sustainable economic development.

Customer service holds a crucial role in shaping tourists' perceptions and experiences, with a favourable reputation capable of considerably elevating the industry. Consequently, the encouragement of customers to share their feedback, whether positive or negative, becomes an effective instrument for their commitment to delivering superior service.

In today's highly competitive global tourism market, Rwanda competes with destinations from around the world. Rwanda is listed among the best tourism destinations for 2023 by CNN Travel. Additionally, Musanze, renowned for gorilla tourism has been listed by TIME Magazine as one of the top destinations to visit in the world in 2023.

Recognising the importance of delivering exceptional customer service serves as a competitive edge that distinguishes the country, positioning it as the top choice for discerning travellers in search of extraordinary experiences.

While Rwanda continues to make strides in the tourism industry, it's essential to bear in mind that a fundamental principle of the "Visit Rwanda" campaign is the dedication to delivering outstanding customer service. The destination attains its peak when we persistently uphold this unwavering commitment.
