Tour du Rwanda update: Eritrean Mekseb Debesay wins stage six, Ndayisenga retains yellow jersey

Top ranked African rider Mekseb Debesay has won his second stage of the Tour du Rwanda after finishing first in today's stage six (Huye-Kigali) in a time of 3h14'06''. His first stage win was Kigali-Ngoma.

Top ranked African rider Mekseb Debesay has won his second stage of the Tour du Rwanda after finishing first in today’s stage six (Huye-Kigali) in a time of  3h14’06’’. His first stage win was Kigali-Ngoma. 

His teammate Dawit Haile came in second place, followed by Jean Bosco Nsengimana and Tour leader Valens Ndayisenga. 

"I am happy to win my second stage in the Tour. I am happy because I have been looking for the second win. Rwanda is beautiful country, I am enjoying the race, I have been trying my best to win the Tour but it seems like it is not possible, I had many punctures but I am fine and I am looking forward to tomorrow’s race.” Debesay said.

He is in 22nd position, seven minutes and 41 seconds behind Ndayisenga.

Ndayisenga keeps his yellow jersey for a record fourth straight day and will be gunning for overall victory in the last stage tomorrow. 

In the overall standings Ndayisenga is followed by Jean Bosco Nsengimana and Arone Debretsion. Rwandans Joseph Biziyaremye and Patrick Byukusenge complete the top five.

Tomorrow’s last stage will consist of a 108 kilometer ride through Kigali that will commence at Amahoro Stadium, Remera.
