FIBA Africa women’s championship: Kenya’s Zetech University replaced by Equity Bank

Kenyan basketball outfit Zetech University Sparks, one of the teams that had confirmed to take part in the upcoming FIBA Zone Five Women’s Championship in Kigali, have pulled out of the tournament.

The competition gets underway on October 28 through November 4, bringing together clubs from six countries in the east African region.

Zetech university has been replaced by Equity Bank basketball club.

The Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) confirmed the changed.

"We received a letter from Zetech University yesterday saying the team is not able to participate in the Zone Five club championship in Rwanda,” KBF’s competitions secretary, Joseph Amoko said.

"As a result, the federation has moved fast and named Equity Bank Hawks as their replacement in the event. We have already alerted the regional body secretariat of the change."

Kenya will send two teams to the week-long show with 15-time champions KPA leading the way in the event.
