Persons suffering from an infection or running a fever do not need to deprive themselves of delicious dishes. However, these should be light and delicious recipes that meet the following conditions:

Contain a high proportion of water: In case of fever, it is necessary to supply a greater amount of fluid to compensate for the hydrating effect of sweating. Fluids are also necessary to enhance urine production, and thus facilitate the elimination of the multiple waste substances excreted in it.

Easy to digest and low fat. In acute phase, it is also recommended that they be low in protein and in calories, which is very light.

Contain natural antibiotics among their ingredients, such as garlic and onion. These substances contribute to destroy germs, which do not develop resistance to them.

Contain ingredients that enhance defenses (immune stimulants). Vegetables and especially tomatoes as well as oranges stimulate the production of antibodies, due to their antioxidant action and to their content in vitamins A and C.

Salads made up of raw vegetables also meet these requirements and are adequate for those suffering from an infectious disease.

However, in case of infections that weaken the person, salad mastication becomes more difficult. This is especially so for children and the elderly. Therefore, in all these cases gazpacho is recommended. This is a typical dish that belongs to the Mediterranean diet. It is an authentic salad puree, a refreshing and healthy dish high in vitamins. Considering that garlic counts among the ingredients, and occasionally onion, gazpacho also includes anti infectious properties.

Once the acute phase is over, it is good to add more caloric and substantial dishes to the diet. These should be high in vitamins and substances that stimulate anti infectious defense mechanism.
