Dear readers,

In most global rankings in the recent past, Rwanda has fared well or at least registered improvement over the years, however, a recently released report; World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Gender Gap report 2014 exhibited a worrying trend.

Rwanda was ranked 127th out of 142 countries in regard to female enrolment in tertiary education. The low enrolment of female students in turn translates to few women working professionally.

We sought various stakeholders in the higher learning sector for their views on the possible causes and a way forward through the status quo.

Still on matters of education, today we look at the contribution of Milcah Grace Aziz to the welfare of Muhima children. She was moved after finding out that some parents could not afford pre-primary and went ahead to establish a nursery school where parents do not have to part with a coin. Turn to page 18 for her inspiring story.
