At least five people suspected of breaking into houses especially targeting electronics have been arrested in Kigali.

The suspects were apprehended in a police operation conducted in Kicukiro District, yesterday.

Chief Supt. Fred Ndoli, Kicukiro District Police Commander said the suspects are part of the racket that has been stealing home appliances in the city.

Police recently recovered an assortment of electronics, including television sets, mobile phones and home theatres, stolen from homes and the suspects are said to be part of this ring.

At the time of their arrest, the suspects were also found in possession of cannabis.

It is alleged that the suspects were also involved in other crimes like snatching ladies bags, vandalizing car windows to steal radios and computers.

"We had information of their criminal acts and we have been looking for them. We got information of their whereabouts from members of the public, which led to their arrest,” CSP Ndoli said.

"We have a good working relationship with the community and in most cases they are the ones that give us information of people involved in criminal acts and in some cases they even apprehend them red-handed and call us to pick them.”
