Airtel Rwanda staff yesterday donated over 10 units of blood to Rwanda Biomedical Centre in Nyarugenge District as part of the firm’s activities to close the annual breast cancer awareness month.

October is the global Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During the month, the public, especially women, is sensitised about the importance of periodic screening for breast cancer; treatment and cure.

The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer. Speaking after the blood donation exercise, Brian Kirungi, the Airtel Rwanda head of legal, regulatory and corporate social responsibility (CSR), urged Rwandans to always donate blood to save lives, especially accident victims, pregnant women and anaemic children.

"We cannot ignore the importance of good health to the development of our country,” Kirungi said. According officials, RBC Nyarugenge collects an average of two units of blood a day, which they said is little and called on the public to always donate blood "so that whoever needs blood, gets it”.
