Kalisa, 45, breathed his last at 6pm at King Faisal Hospital, a week and half after being diagnosed with Hepatitis C.

Hepatitis C is an infectious disease affecting primarily the liver, caused by the hepatitis C virus.

"He was first admitted to the Rwanda Military Hospital on Sunday. However after his condition deteriorated yesterday he was transferred to King Faisal on Wednesday, only to die later in the evening,” his brother, Fulgence Kabalisa told The New Times in a phone interview yesterday.

Remarking on the sad news, City of Kigali Mayor Fidele Ndayisaba, said that Kalisa became ill towards the end of his month long annual leave.

Kalisa assumed the position of vice mayor in February 2011.  He leaves behind a wife and three children.

"We will remember him as someone who was not only dedicated to his family but also the nation”, Kabalisa remarked.
