Preparations in boxing start very early because the better you prepare the better the chance to succeed, no substitute, local boxing governing body national technical director has said.

Speaking to Times Sport over the weekend, Gashugi Kananura, who also doubles as the national team head coach, explained that preparations for next year’s Beijing Olympics Games qualifiers should have started long before.

In his capacity as national technical director and national team coach, Kananura who has been a central figure in Rwandan boxing since its inception over ten year ago noted that early preparation is only route through which any boxer can succeed.

"It’s better we skip the forthcoming World Championships because we have nothing to do there since after missed the All Africa Games [held in the Algerian capital Algiers last July],” the veteran coach noted.

Before adding that, they [Rwanda Amateur Boxing Association] are planning to use the inter-clubs and the national championships to select the squad that will feature in the two Beijing Olympic Games’ qualifiers.

The first of two qualifiers is scheduled for late this year while the second early next year, however, the venues are yet to be named.
