Lowly Marines stunned reigning champions APR after holding the military side to a 1-1 draw in a National Football League match at Umuganda stadium, yesterday evening.

Marines striker, Aaron Muvunyi, opened the scoring for his side in the first half before a late equaliser from Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza secured a point for the army side.

This is the third time that the Rubavu based club has drawn against the champions in 13 years.

Meanwhile Police squandered a chance to go top after a goalless draw against a stubborn AS Kigali in a tightly contested game that saw the law enforcers drop points for the second time in the last four days.

Striker Jacques Tuyisenge had several chances on goal but was denied by an intact AS Kigali defense manned by the central defense pairing of Soteri Kayumba and Latif Bishira.

"The players were tense during the game and this affected us but let us not take away anything from AS Kigali because they are a well organised club from the management to the players,” Mbungo, who has coached AS Kigali before said.

AS Kigali head coach, Eric Nshimiyimana admitted that it was a tough game and that his players worked hard to try and win the game but as fate would have it, his side failed to find the back of the net.

The league continues today with Rayon Sports looking for an away win against bogey side Etincelles that will move them into top position on goal difference.

The Blues are third with 7 points, three points off APR.
