Rwanda U23 men’s volleyball team coach Paul Bitok is afraid that the lack of more competitive friendly games may affect the performance of his team in the Africa Championships slated for November 5-13 in Egypt.
The U23 team was supposed to travel to Kenya on Thursday to play warm-up games against Kenyan elite teams namely; Prisons, GSU and Cooperative Bank before flying to Cairo for a final warm-up match against Egypt U23 side on November.
However, the national volleyball federation hasn’t secured funds, according to officials, which has forced the coach to alter his plans. The team will now play warm-up matches against local teams.
"It would have been better to test the team against top teams but that is not possible now. We will have to play against local teams,” Bitok said.
Seven teams have so far confirmed participation in the U-23 African Volleyball championship and they include: Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Libya, Botswana and Rwanda.
