Airtel has launched a promo where airtel money agents will get double commission for any transactions made.

The campaign dubbed ‘The best things in life are free’ will benefit the firm’s over 4,000 airtel money agents across the country.

"An agent will get twice as much commission compared to what they would ordinarily get from any one transaction,” Teddy Bhullar, the Airtel Rwanda managing director, explained during the launch at the firm’s headquarters in Remera, Kigali on Tuesday.

About 70 per cent of the telecom’s over 1.1 million subscribers have airtel money accounts, according to Bhullar.

The campaign has been seen by sector experts as yet another move by the telecom firm to woo more businesspeople to start retailing its products, as well as attract new subscribers.

Competition among local telecom players has been growing, and firms are using new techniques to attract subscribers or retailers.

Phillip Onzoma, the head of mobile commerce and enterprise business at Airtel Rwanda, explained that the offer would, not only benefit agents, but customers as well who will continue to conduct transactions on the platform at no cost.
