A delegation of three officials from the Turkish National Police (TNP) force visited the Rwanda National Police headquarters in Kacyiru, yesterday, and held discussions with the top management on how the two forces can cooperate especially in capacity building.

The visiting team is headed by Mehmet Karakaya, the deputy director for International Relations Department in the Turkish National Police.

The Inspector General of Police, Emmanuel Gasana, while briefing the delegation on the policing environment in Rwanda, said after the liberation, the nation, under "able leadership undertook a journey of rapid recovery.”

"This has transformed Rwanda. We are contributing to the world peace through peace support operations and other international cooperation engagements,” IGP Gasana said.

"Confronted with emerging security challenges, crimes becoming more sophisticated, modern, organised and transnational in nature, RNP has laid preventive strategies with key priorities,” he added.

The priorities include capacity building, crime reduction strategy, community policing and international cooperation among others.

Karakaya said there is need for the two forces to identify areas where they can work together, especially in capacity building and training.

The officials, who also visited the RNP anti-GBV medical and psychosocial wing, Isange One-Stop Centre at Kacyiru Police Hospital, are also expected to tour various RNP facilities and activities in the countryside.
