Teenage golfer Aaron Taylor Koonce starts his journey to being a professional golfer in the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship which tees off this morning at the par 72 Limuru Golf Club course.

Speaking to Times Sport yesterday before departure to Nairobi, Taylor’s father Martin Koonce who doubles as his coach said that this championship will help him improve as he pursues a golfing career.

"I am excited for my son who is set to compete in the Kenya Amateur golf Championships. It will be his first World Golf Ranking event,”

"He has had good preparations and I expect him to register good performances. He has been improving and hopefully we will have a strong and professional golfer in future,” added Koonce.

Many amateur golfers are expected to participate in the three-day tournament, which will see 20 winners secure spots in the coveted Barclays Kenya Open (BKO) Pro-Am 2015 tournament next year.

Last month, the 17-year-old Taylor Koonce completed his first 72-hole tournament finishing in the top 30 out of 97 golfers from South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Zambia in the Tusker Malt Uganda Golf Open that was held in Kampala.

Koonce was awarded the third place cup in the amateur division of the Uganda Open Golf Championships. At the Africa Youth Games held in Botswana in August, he finished eighth in the U-17 golf tournament.
