FORMERLY SHUNNED, UWERA NOW INSPIRES CLASSMATES

Who says Paul, formerly Saul, a persecutor of Christians, was the last person to reform and start winning souls for Christ? Well, Jackie Uwase, a student at College Ami des Enfants, has proved to us that nothing is impossible as long as there's a will.

Who says Paul, formerly Saul, a persecutor of Christians, was the last person to reform and start winning souls for Christ? Well, Jackie Uwase, a student at College Ami des Enfants, has proved to us that nothing is impossible as long as there’s a will.

Uwase’s story

Three months ago, the 18-year-old Uwase had totally gone off track due to her addiction to drinking, smoking and all sorts of crazy acts adolescents like to get involved in.

As a result, her performance in class sharply declined to the disappointment of both her teachers and parents. What was even more worrying was that Uwase was a candidate who was left with a few months to sit her final exams. Everyone had nearly written her off but the teachers decided to give her another chance to reform.

Uwase was asked to start attending regular counselling sessions and religiously did so. And six weeks later, the results began showing. The Senior Six candidate had reformed and was no longer into drinking and smoking. No wonder in mocks she was among the best performers.

The girl who was formerly a disgrace is now a source of inspiration for her schoolmates.

Uwase attributes her quick ‘recovery’ to her father and teachers. She says one of her father’s statement that always moved her was: "You are the only one to fight for your life.”

The teenager plans to pursue a career in medicine.
