Female athlete Clementine Mukandanga grabbed a bronze medal in the Tanzania Rotary Dar half Marathon 2014 held yesterday in Dar es Salaam.

Mukandanga clocked one hour and fifteen minutes to finish third behind Tanzanian duo of Anastia and Katarina Range who won gold and silver medals after clocking 1:13 and 1:14 minutes respectively.

With her bronze medal victory, she bagged Tsh.1 million (Rwf.0.4m) as cash prize.

The male representatives finished outside the medal bracket with Felicien Muhitira, Potien Ntawuyirushintege and Eric Sebahire finishing sixth, seventh and ninth, all clocking one hour and three minutes respectively.

Tanzanians ensured a 1-2-3 finish led by Dickson Marwa, Islam Dzuma and Joseph Fabiona, all clocking one hour and two minutes.

The Rwanda team head coach Anicent Kanyabugoyi told Times Sport yesterday from Dar es Salaam that the athletes staged a fair show despite not grabbing many honours.

"They did their best and I must appreciate their performances. Their finishing was not good but tactically, our mission was achieved,”

"We could have performed much better if we had had enough rest prior to the race. We travelled by road and arrived a day before the competition, so they simply did their best considering the long journey they had undertaken by road from Kigali,” added Kanyabugoyi.

The event which was flagged off by former President of the United Republic of Tanzania Mzee Ali Hassan Mwinyi attracted elite runners from Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Malawi.
