White Clouds through to women T20 semi-finals

WHITE CLOUDS cricket club beat Queens of Victory CC by 19 runs to qualify to the semi-finals in this year’s UAExchange and Express Money women’s T20 tournament.

White Clouds won the toss and batted first and made 98 runs all out in 20 overs. Mary Maina top scored for them with 15 runs while Chemusi Uwase chipped in with 6 runs. Queens of Victory opening bowler Angel Muhawenimana took 5 wickets in four overs.

In reply, defending champions Queens of Victory made 79 runs in the allotted 20 overs for the loss of eight wickets. Their captain Jeanne d’Arc Sibo making 27 runs, the most for the team and Meridian Bimenyimana contributed 12 runs but it wasn’t enough as the fell 19 runs short of the target.

"We tried our best to win this game but our opponents were better on the day. We’re disappointed lose today’s game,” admitted Sibo, adding that they still have a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals if they win Kigali Angels next weekend.

Meanwhile, White Clouds coach Eric Hirwa was happy for his team’s performance.

"Queens of Victory is one of the strongest teams in the country, so beating them gives us more confidence that we can actually go onto win the tournament,” he said shortly after the game.
