Crazy ideas from campus

During the long holiday, administrators and professors at different universities also take a break. But I have heard alot about teachers on holiday; they get so bored that they start teaching their children and neighbour's children by force. As if that isn't enough, they even make them wake them up for morning prep.

During the long holiday, administrators and professors at different universities also take a break. But I have heard alot about teachers on holiday; they get so bored that they start teaching their children and neighbour’s children by force. As if that isn’t enough, they even make them wake them up for morning prep.

When they get a chance to meet their colleagues, they leave no stone unturned. They will review every rule in their respective schools/universities, and this is why their creativity heightens every semester – the new stuff they get from other teachers.

For example, I hear they sit and decide that the results of first year should be indicated on the final degree transcript. Why would you do that to a student? Sometimes, they take retakes off the transcripts and put a direct ‘repeat semester or year’.

This time, some students from a university in Kigali couldn’t believe their eyes when they got to the gate and there was a gateman with a ruler measuring how tight their trousers were. This was an attempt to ban ‘bottle trousers’ also commonly known as "kacupa”.

It was serious. Students went to the gate and were asked to put a leg forward for the gateman to take measurements. He would then take out a ruler and proceed. If the pants were beyond the required measurements, the students were sent away.

There is a guy who is obsessed with the bottle pants. When the news got to him, he tried to change universities but unfortunately he couldn’t due to the number of retakes which almost equaled the number of passes. He couldn’t imagine life without his pants. But he had to wear baggy jeans and I really don’t want to describe how he looked. Let’s just say he looked like he was wearing pampers.

After two days, students switched to flared trousers. However, they are super tight around the thighs and behind. That’s as far as they can get, for now. However, they are waiting for bored lecturers on holiday to tell them they can only wear trousers big enough to fit two chubby fellows. After that, I can’t say I know their next move.
