RwandAir, the national carrier, will resume flights to Mwanza, Tanzania next month, John Mirenge, the chief executive officer, has said. 

RwandAir had suspended flights to lake city in January last year. The airline operates scheduled flights to Dar-es-Salaam and Kilimanjaro.

It will be operating three flights a week to Mwanza – on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

"We are delighted to further strengthen our regional co-operation with the Republic of Tanzania and hope to serve this underserved market,” said Mirenge in a media statement yesterday.

The decision to resume flights to Mwanza is being seen as an effort by the airline to consolidate its presence in the region.

The airline will be using the Bombardier Q400NextGen on the route.

RwandAir also flies to Nairobi, Entebbe, Mombasa, Bujumbura, Juba and Cameroon. The airline also serves Johannesburg, Dubai, Lagos, Libreville and Brazzaville.
