Bukera tops NRC standings after Huye Rally win

Valery Bukera won Huye Rally, which is the third round of the National Rally Championship over the weekend in Huye District, Southern Province. 

Bukera navigated by Khetia Nital in a Subaru N10, clocked 48 minutes and 37 seconds in a 160km race where only three cars managed to finish.

Claude Kwizera navigated by Gilbert Rugomwa in a Subaru Impreza N12 took second place, coming two minutes and one second behind while Claude Gakwaya navigated by Claude Mugabo in Subaru Impreza N10 came five minutes and nine seconds late to finish third.

The win takes Bukera to the summit of the National Rally Championship standings with 55 points with Kwizera jumping into second spot with 45 points while Gakwaya moved into third place with 34 points.

Reigning national champion Davite Giancarlo, who did not compete in Huye rally, has now dropped to fourth spot with 32 points.

The two-day rally had registered 13 crews; nine from Rwanda and four from Burundi but only six cars managed to compete with three bowing out due to mechanical problems.

Focus will now turn to Rally de l’Est Memorial Jean Pierre scheduled for November 1 and Rallye des Mille Collines set for December 12-13.
