APR stun Gicumbi in handball league

Gicumbi 31-33 APRES Kigoma 39-28 GS St Alloys

Peter Clever Niyishaka and Alexis Nshimiyimana scored 10 goals each as APR stunned handball league defending champions, Gicumbi 33-31 on Sunday at Kimisagara youth sports centre.

Gaston Kanyandekwe and Jean Nepomuscene Niyishaka scored 12 and 10 respectively for Gicumbi, who were looking to win and close the gap on league leaders, Police.

Police has 40 points with one game remaining against Gicumbi while the reigning champions still have three games against Police, UR-Huye and UR-college of Education. Gicumbi need to win their remaining games to retain the title.

Despite the loss on Sunday, Gicumbi stayed in second position with 37 points while APR is third on 35 points—they have two games still to play.
