LDK, IPRC-Kigali crowned champions

LYCÉE DE KIGALI (LDK) won the boys' title for this year's inter-schools cricket tournament, while IPRC-Kigali took the girls' crown after winning their respective finals on Saturday at Kicukiro cricket oval.

LYCÉE DE KIGALI (LDK) won the boys’ title for this year’s inter-schools cricket tournament, while IPRC-Kigali took the girls’ crown after winning their respective finals on Saturday at Kicukiro cricket oval.

In the boys’ category, Lycée de Kigali won the toss and batted first, making 127 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs and in rely, IPRC-Kigali were bowled out for just 72 runs in 13.1 overs, hence losing by  55 runs.

Lycée de Kigali’s Clinton Rubagumya, who scored a total of 104 runs in the tournament, was named player of the tournament while Eric Nkundimana of IPRC-Kigali took the best bowler award with 7 wickets in 9 overs, with Lycée’s Habib Mugisha walking away with the upcoming player award following his 6 wickets in 7 overs.

In the girls’ category, IPRC-Kigali defeated debutants Fawe Girls by 55 runs.

IPRC-Kigali won the toss and batted first, making 112 runs in 15 overs with a loss of 4 wickets, then Fawe chased the score and managed to make 57 runs with a lost 6 wickets in 15 overs.

The best player award in this category was shared by IPRC’s Egidia Uwimana, who made 121 runs with the highest score of 78, took 7 wickets and 3 catches while her teammate Antoine Uwimbabazi made 115 runs and the highest of 48.

Fawe’s Aimée Rolande, who made 48 runs and took 3 wickets, was named the most promising player.

On the way to the final, Lycée de Kigali eliminated five-time winners Kagarama SS while IPRC-Kigali defeated Apade in semi –finals. In the girls’ category, Fawe eliminated Ndera, while IPRC-Kigali beat Lycée de Ruhango.
