A music workshop to hone skills of upcoming artistes kicked off on Monday at the Goethe Institute in Kiyovu.

The four-day workshop is being conducted by veteran musician Ben Ngabo, an instructor at the Nyundo School of Arts in Rubavu district.

Ben Ngabo (drumming) shares his music skills with the participants.

Ngabo said the objective of the training is to teach upcoming artistes how to use polyphones, rhythms and vocals to enhance their music careers.

Ngabo, 51, advised the artistes to shun drugs and alcohol if they want to make it big in the music industry. He warned them that such reckless behaviour is the reason why many budding musicians have thrown their careers in the gutter.

During the workshop, artistes were urged to shun drugs and alcohol.

Chantal Uwizeyimana, a member of Choeur International et Ensemble Instrumental choir, said her team came for the workshop in order to hone their musical skills and take their music to the next level.

The training is jointly organised by the French cultural institute and Goethe institute.
