An elderly woman feeds milk to a child after serving her a meal as part of the Umuganura festival – the traditional feast of first harvest that was religiously observed in ancient Rwanda – at the Rwanda Day 2014 in the US city of Atlanta, Georgia, Saturday.

This is the first time that Umuganura has been marked at any Rwanda Day, the annual events during which Rwandans in the Diaspora converge in one city and play host to their compatriots from back home to celebrate the country’s rebirth and steady rise.

In recent days, government has moved to restore the meaning and observance of Umuganura, saying the tradition was a symbol of unity and wealth. President Kagame addressed the sixth edition of Rwanda Day on Saturday held under the theme ‘Agaciro – our Choice’.
