Police in Burera District  Friday destroyed narcotic drugs valued at Rwf32 million.

They include tens of thousands of liters of elicit brew such kanyanga, Coffee Spirit, Host, Chief, Choice and Samba Waragi as well as 5,224 rolls of marijuana.

The drugs were impounded in Burera in August and September this year. Students were among the residents who witnessed the destruction of the elicit items at Gahunga and Rusarabuye Police stations.

Senior Superintendent Félix Rutayisire, the Burera District Police Commander, said Police managed to seize the narcotic substances in partnership with locals who availed credible information on suspects.

He said narcotic drugs are sneaked into the country from neighboring countries and called upon residents to strengthen the partnership with security organs in order to fight and prevent drug abuse which, he said, can cause health effects on the people who consume them.

Florence Uwambajemariya, the district’s vice mayor in charge of social affairs, commended Rwanda National Police for the fight against the trade and consumption of narcotics.

She urged residents in the district to work closely with Police through information sharing to ensure criminals are arrested and brought to book.
