Coach names U-19 rugby team for Safaricom 7s tournament

Fourteen U-19 players have been selected to represent the country in this year's Safaricom Sevens rugby tournament due to take place from September 26 -29 in Nairobi, Kenya. Fourteen U-19 players have been selected to represent the country in this year’s Safaricom Sevens rugby tournament due to take place from September 26 -29 in Nairobi, Kenya. U-19 team acting coach Juma Adams said that the boys are all in high spirits and ready to put on a formidable challenge at the Kasarani stadium.

He had initially summoned 24 players from where the 14 were selected. The team will depart for Nairobi on Wednesday,

Rwanda’s history in this tournament is not something to reckon with having finished as first runners-up during their first appearance in 2012. Last year, the U-19 team finished third.

The team has been in preparations at Mumena stadium in Nyamirambo for almost two weeks.

The Safaricom Sevens which started in 1996, is a tournament run by the Kenya Rugby Union.

The competition is promoted as being Africa’s premier rugby sevens tournament drawing crowds of over 20,000 fans. It is unique in that it is contested by numerous national representative sides from Africa and beyond, by professional seven outfits, professionals and amateur club sides, invitation teams, universities and schools.

Players in the camp include; Carlo Isimbi, Jacques Bigirimana, Michelle Mugisha, Robert Mugisha, Heritie Habimana, Abdul Fils Ntakirutimana, Jackson Rukundo, Rene Hakizimana, David Ujeneza, Diego Dusenge Mucungura, Jean Luc Tuyisenge, Ombeni Iradukunda, Fidele Fils Iradukunda and Patrick Ikorukwishaka.
