Police have arrested a man accused of conning another of Rwf50,000.

Claiming to be an employee of Rwanda Focus, a local English newspaper, the suspect, was arrested at Police headquarters in Kacyiru where he had allegedly conned someone, saying he was getting married and needed financial assistance. 

The suspect, 32, was arrested following a number of attempts to con different people of money using different gambits.

Faking death

On other occasions, Police said, the suspect, whom they claim is known in Kigali, has faked death of close family members to con people of money.

He is held at Kicukiro Police Station pending further investigation.

The suspect was found in possession of five SIM cards.

"The public knows me by names of Patrick Mwebaze others call me Spice,” the suspect said.

He also said he was a student of Nkumba University in Uganda.

 Conning is punishable under Article 318 of the Penal Code.
