Rwandan runners set for Tanzania-Dar Rotary half marathon

Rwandan athletes have been invited to compete in the Tanzania Rotary Dar half marathon,scheduled for October 14 in Dar es Salaam.

Rwandan athletes have been invited to compete in the Tanzania Rotary Dar half marathon,scheduled for October 14 in Dar es Salaam.

The development was confirmed by the Rwanda Athletics Federation technical director Jean Pierre Ndacyayisenga on Friday.

Eric Sebahire and Felicien Muhitira and a female athlete who is yet to be confirmed, will represent the country.

Ndacyayisenga said: "Tanzania Athletics Federation have invited three athletes from Rwanda to take part in the half marathon. They invited Sebahire and Muhitira and told us to pick one female athlete.”

He noted that the female athlete will be either Claudette Mukasakindi or Clementine Mukandanga, who were both in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

APR athletics club’ Muhitira won a bronze medal in the East Africa Military Games cross country held in Zanzibar last month.

The organisers of the Tanzania Dar Rotary half marathon will pay for air tickets and accommodation and have staked Tshs 6m as cash prize for the top three runners in each category.

The marathon will also draw professional runners from across the continent. According to organisers, the race also includes a 5km walk for family fun and a 21.1km cycling race.
