In the kitchen : The ulcer burner smoothie

CABBAGE, apple, ginger and celery. Doesn't sound too enticing, does it? This smoothie has a bitter-sweet taste, which keeps you interested in taking another sip. As the thick drink slides down your throat, all you can think about is good health.

If you are on the health train and do not fancy sugar or sweeteners, this is your drink. "Cabbage and ginger have always been known to be ulcer burners and this smoothie helps heal ulcers. If you take other health precautions and eat well, it helps with stress too,” says Mugabo Rwiliriza, the Managing Director of More Love Juice Bar in Gacuriro. With just a juicer and not a blender, you can make your own smoothie;

Prep time - 5 minsJuice time - 10 minsTotal time - 15 minsRecipe type: health drinkMakes: 2 servings

What you’ll need

81 and a half apples One thumb of ginger Handful of cabbage leaves

•Properly wash all the fruits and place them on a very clean surface. Position your clean juicer on the table and place the cabbage in the juicer. "The juicer helps separate the cabbage fiber from the cabbage juice and we get to have the cabbage juice collected. Usually the fiber is excreted as waste in our body,” says Mugabo.

•The apple and a half is also placed in the juicer there after as well as the ginger and the celery. The juices from all are collected and the mixture is your smoothie.
